Roles and Responsibilities:

Telecommunications technologists work with various telecommunication devices and systems, including:

  1. Voice, data, and video convergence (broadcast and two-way)
  2. Fiber optics and optical networking
  3. Wireless communications, such as radio, television, satellite, microwave, cellular, wireless LANs, and land mobile
  4. Voice-over internet protocol (VOIP) for internet-based voice conversations
  5. Computers and associated devices
  6. Local and wide area networks (LANs and WANs)
  7. Broadband technologies
  8. Traditional telephone systems (access, transport, switching, and multiplexing technologies)
  9. Power supplies for IT and telecommunications products

Responsibilities:

  • Designing, installing, managing, and maintaining wired and wireless telecommunication networks and equipment
  • Testing and troubleshooting telecommunications networks and equipment
  • Assisting in the production and quality control of telecommunications systems and products
  • Leading teams of engineering technologists and installation technicians
  • Preparing and presenting business and technical reports and plans

You may work in offices, workshops, or production departments, both indoors and outdoors. Travel may be required for installations and maintenance across different regions.
