Are you fascinated by the idea of tapping into underground water or harnessing the earth's energy? Do you enjoy working outdoors and at your own pace? Are you skilled with machinery and physically strong? If so, a career as a water well driller might be right for you. In this profession, you will set up and operate drilling rigs to create residential, commercial, and industrial water wells. Additionally, those in the earth loop technician branch construct earth loops for heating and cooling systems.

Responsibilities of Water Well Drillers

Water well drillers must have knowledge of geological formations to locate clean and safe drinking water. They may assist customers in finding suitable well locations and estimating costs. They also perform environmental assessment drilling. The general duties of water well drillers include setting up drilling equipment, operating rigs to bore well holes and line them with casings, drilling test and piling holes, recording geological information, installing screens and pumps for well development, designing and installing pumping systems, cleaning and disinfecting wells, maintaining and upgrading equipment, and working on older wells and pumping systems.

Roles of Earth Loop Technicians

Earth loop technicians focus on using the earth's constant temperature to provide heating and cooling for residential and commercial buildings. They install earth loops by drilling holes, lining them with casings, digging trenches for system piping, laying piping in trenches, recording geological information, calculating pipe size, assembling loop pipes, and conducting quality tests.
